Case Study: Cutting Costs and Scaling Zignyl’s QSR Software Platform
Cutting Cloud Costs and Boosting Scalability for Zignyl
Zignyl, a SaaS company providing HR management tools for restaurant franchises, faced challenges with an outdated platform, sky-high cloud costs, and a lack of in-house development resources. After initial development efforts fell short of expectations, Zignyl’s owner, Matt Forbush, turned to Clear Function. In less than three months, we modernized the platform, reduced cloud expenses by 64.6%, and ensured Zignyl system was horizontally scalable to handle their growing client base.
The Challenge
Zignyl’s platform was outdated, running on .NET 4x and hosted their web app and database on a single server. This limited scalability, increased costs, and hindered performance.
Plus, their time to market was delayed by six to nine months by the time they engaged us due to their previous development partnership.
Goals
Zignyl needed a modernized, scalable platform that reduced operational costs, improved performance, and positioned them for long-term SaaS growth. And they needed it fast.
Our Work
We began our project with a thorough audit of their existing systems to identify flaws and opportunities to improve. Clear Function upgraded the platform to .NET Core 3, migrated hosting to a PaaS architecture for scalability, reduced cloud spend, and added key new features. Zignyl retained one of our engineers for ongoing support while they built an in-house development team. Our engineer assisted them in this process and provided knowledge transfer and documentation to onboard new team members.
Outcomes
In three months, we transformed Zignyl into a cost-efficient, scalable SaaS platform. Clear Function’s work improved system performance, and set Zignyl up for sustainable growth with a new in-house team.
